Whisky Mould is a naturally occurring growth that can grow on virtually any surface, causing discolouration and leaving a dusty/sooty film that can be slimy and slippery when wet. Whisky mould is not known to cause any health issues but is very unsightly often discolouring walls, roofs, fascias etc on houses and cladding on retail and commercial buildings.

Whisky mould (Baudoinia compniacensis) also called whisky black or whisky fungus sometimes, is a naturally occurring fungus that thrives on ethanol. When whisky matures in bonds the alcohol that escapes is called “the Angels’ share” and it is this ethanol that whisky mould thrives on. Occurrences and levels of growth increase the nearer you get to a whisky bond (storage and maturation area) but also occurs near distilleries, spirit bottling facilities, cooperages where used barrels are refurbished and manufactured and even bakeries. Although natural and not considered to be harmful, whisky mould is most definitely not universally welcome and with our systems, solutions and experience can be swiftly, safely and effectively removed and deterred.
